We went camping this weekend and I thought I would share a few Dutch oven recipes that we used. My brother went with us and commented that he is glad he goes camping with someone who knows how to cook.
Frozen roll dough, 1 package
brown sugar, 2-3 C
butter or margarine, 1-2 C
Grease oven well on bottom and sides. Sprinkle 1 cup brown sugar on bottom of pot. Arrange frozen roll dough in a single layer. Cover with one inch pats of butter or margarine. Sprinkle with 1 cup brown sugar. Use remaining package of roll dough and create a second layer. Cover with additional butter and sugar as desired. Cook until dough is browned and brown sugar glaze is bubbly. Use 9 briquettes under the oven and 12 briquettes on the lid. May be stacked.
2 C bacon or sausage, cooked and crumbled
1 loaf stale bread, torn into pieces
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
2-3 C shredded cheese
1-2 C milk
1 dozen eggs
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and pour into a well buttered Dutch oven. Cook until eggs are set and cheese is melted. Use 9 briquettes under the oven and 12 briquettes on the lid. May be stacked.
3 pound chicken pieces
1 bottle BBQ sauce
Combine both ingredients in a well greased Dutch oven. Cook until juices run clear when chicken is pierced with a fork. Use 9 briquettes under the oven and 12 briquettes on the lid. May be stacked.
Fruit Dump Cake
1 1/2 C applesauce
1 can fruit cocktail, in syrup
yellow cake mix
1 cube margarine
Grease Dutch oven generously with margarine. Combine applesauce, brown sugar and fruit cocktail. Pour in bottom of oven. Spread dry cake mix over top of wet ingredients. Dot top with pats of margarine. Bake until hot and bubbly around the edges and crisp in the center. Use 9 briquettes under the oven and 12 briquettes on the lid. May be stacked.
